As of May 1st, 2010, all travellers, foreign and Cubans living abroad, must purchase a medical insurance policy when travelling to Cuba. The insurance policy must be purchased from the country of departure and upon demand, travelers must present a policy, insurance certificate or traveling assistance card valid for the duration of their stay in Cuba.

When travelling to Cuba, individuals are encouraged to carry:
1. Their provincial health card.
2. Proof of insurance - A benefits card is sufficient.
3. Proof of a contractual relationship with a reconized provider.
